Overview

Located in the vibrant suburb of Rosedale, Auckland, China Castle offers a compelling slice of Chinese culinary tradition infused with subtle Korean influences. Nestled at 12 Arrenway Drive, this restaurant serves as a comforting oasis for those seeking hearty, flavorful dishes in a casual setting. Its menu is a tapestry of bold flavors and textures, highlighted by standout dishes such as Spicy Pork Back-Bone and Seafood Noodle Soup, Jjajangmyun, and 탕수육—Korean-style sweet and sour pork that strikes a balance between crispiness and a delicate cinnamon aroma.

China Castle’s culinary appeal lies in its diverse interpretations of regional flavors, from the chewy, soft texture of their Jjajangmyun noodles to the generous portions of Stir-Fried Spicy Seafood Noodles brimming with fresh ingredients. Whether savoring the robust Black-Bean Sauce Noodle or the highly satisfying Fried Dumplings, diners find complexity without excess. The kitchen’s attention to both savory and spicy notes crafts a menu that, while approachable, rewards those with a palate attuned to layered tastes.

The ambiance reflects a no-nonsense approach, favoring functionality over flair. While some patrons mention a desire for brighter lighting, the space remains welcoming and suitable for casual lunches or family dinners. The service complements the dining experience with attentiveness that many have appreciated, creating an environment where quality food meets friendly hospitality.

Targeted toward a diverse audience—from local workers on a late lunch break to families exploring authentic flavors—the restaurant strikes a balance between affordability and culinary quality. Customers note the reasonable pricing for sizable servings, especially in noodle dishes that boast generous portions. Those intrigued by traditional Korean-Chinese hybrid dishes will find particular delight here, particularly with items like the sweet and sour pork and Jjajangmyun pairing, which has earned memorable praise.

In essence, China Castle - Auckland stands as a reliable destination for those craving a thoughtfully prepared Chinese meal with a Korean twist, promising fresh ingredients, satisfying textures, and a welcoming atmosphere. While there is room for improvement in space brightness and perhaps portion consistency, the overall experience remains positive, inviting repeat visits from both newcomers and regulars alike.

It was good to have a late lunch at 3:30 p.m. on the last weekend. Even generous at reasonable prices. Sweet and sour pork is crispy and smells like cinnamon. Rice with noodles is a bit spicy but okay. It would be nice if the hall was more brighter.

Average food, with good customer service - They can do better with the amount of the noodle on the dish (was just average) - But I would definitely come again !

We ordered the Jajangmyeon and sweet and sour pork. The texture of the noodles was phenomenal. It was soft and chewy. I never had anything like it before. It now lives rent free in my mind. The sweet and sour pork was crispy indeed but too sweet if eaten on its own, however, its perfect if paired with the jajangmyeon as it compliments each other. I can’t wait to try their jjamppong next time!

I had stir fried spicy noodle and it had lots of ingredients as well as large amount of noodles - almost 1.5 serving! It wasn't very expensive. Food came out very fast as we came at 2pm. Will come back with family.

Called in to book a table for dinner and it was ready. Food came out relatively soon, we enjoyed our OG jjamppong, seafood jjamppong, jjajangmyun + a M sized sweet+sour pork dish. We might add thay the seafood and og jjamppongs were not very different so og is good if you're on a budget. Service was great!
